May 2010

To Village Commons Friends & Supporters:
Several things are going on at Village Commons and we need general support in a number of ways. The following are some of the things that are happening that all can be part of and support.

BERNICE GARDEN ART MARKET
Beginning this Saturday, we have organized and will be supporting an art market at Bernice Gardens on 14th and South Main. Come out from 9am to 2pm, enjoy the garden, listen to some music, and support local artists.  We are planning some special activities and events during the market, so if you have time to come out and help us as we begin these special Saturday activities we would appreciate your participation (more information to come).  We have space for more vendors and we are looking for music groups to play during the market.  If you know of interested artists, musicians and vendors they can contact Rhonda Reeves at 501-350-4055 or e-mail rhonda@canvasjunkie.com.  Please inform your friends and neighbors about this community activity.

FOUCHE CREEK CLEANUP COMMITTEE

Michael Haddigan is heading up a committee to put a long range plan in place to support cleanups and the protection of our special Little Rock watershed, the Fouche Creek. We have several energetic folks who have joined his efforts to continue ongoing activities that will help improve this important watershed. We are planning on several clean up opportunities and working on long range strategic possibilities for support of the Fouche. E-mail Michael Haddigan at mikehadd@ix.netcom.com if you are interested in getting involved.

HEALTHY COMMUNITIES COMMITTEE

Rev. Scott Water's heads up our healthy communities initiative.  The committee has made good progress putting together plans to work within our communities to encourage a comprehensive audit of homes to support adjustments needed for more healthy homes in our communities. Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities to support this effort.

VOLUNTEER AT THE GARDENS

Volunteer Saturday mornings at our community gardens. We are beginning to get into the time of the year that garden support in Arkansas becomes a little more challenging because of the summer heat. If you enjoy gardening during this time of the year we would welcome your involvement. Please contact Sally Mengel at 314-608-3950 or email sally.mengel@gmail.com for information.
