history
Gerald Cound and Pam Choate, both of Little Rock, founded Village Commons in 2008 to address community needs through a variety of activities. After formation of a Board of Directors in early 2009, regular monthly board meetings began in April of that year. Renovations to the organization’s offices in a historic building on South Main St. were completed in July, and about 75 people attended a grand opening reception there.
Village Commons has continued recruiting volunteers and has participated in numerous community events, sponsoring the Faith, Justice and Environment Conference and hosting meetings of city, county and state officials and community groups to plan a
Green-the-Block event for the Sept. 11 National Day of Service. The organization has also sponsored classes on gardening and healthful cooking and has organized community garden and litter cleanup activities. Village Commons continues building links with local government and community groups.
