Fourche Creek Cleanup
March 13, 2010 (weather permitting)
Well, it's back on. After trying no fewer than three(!) times to take our intrepid group into the Fourche last fall, we're teaming up with the City of Little Rock and Keep Little Rock Beautiful to try it again on Saturday, March 13.
For more information or to volunteer, email Melinda Glasgow at mglasgow@littlerock.org. We'd especially like to hear from you if you have a flat-bottom boat or canoe!
If you want to support the effort but prefer to stay dry, you can always check out Village Commons' own Fourche first-timer Kerri Sernel - she'll be Facebooking and tweeting from the comfort of whichever boat she manages to talk her way onto. (If you haven't already, we invite you to join us on Facebook at Village Commons LR, and follow us on Twitter at @vlgcommonslr.)
Audubon Arkansas says the Fourche Creek Watershed is perhaps the most important urban watershed Arkansas. The watershed drains and filters runoff from much of Little Rock. Yet it is home to a diverse population of birds, including Great Blue Herons, wood ducks and Prothonotary Warblers, With a little luck, you might also see beavers, deer, mink, snakes and turtles, Audubon says. That's why Village Commons wants to support efforts to maintain the Fourche Creek watershed.
